The Project

We were approached by this client who were initially looking for two buildings, one as a garden lounge and another as a gym.

During the consultation period at the show centre, the client also really liked the idea of a canopy area for alfresco dining seating with a sports TV.

After a number of design ideas, we agreed on a unique design where the two buildings were separated by 4m canopy in between plus two Em-glaze rooflights, one for each building. Due to the usage and the building's & proximity to boundaries, we needed to seek planning permission.

The Work

After planning permission was approved, the original garden building was removed and we went to work on creating the two steel and timber frame bases.

The integrated canopy gave us some design and technical hurdles but it was a great team effort to accomplish the challenge.

This was also the first project where we installed the new Emglaze roof lights. These really do set off that modern slick look.

Working with the client's IT company, all of the lighting is App controlled and the sound and vision including a TV in the canopy are all linked to the Control4 system in the house. This is one of the most integrated home projects we've completed.

After we finished the buildings, the client designed and landscaped around the building with the new patio running underneath the canopy and up to the pond. It looks fantastic.

Along with the main project we also installed an effective storage shed that complemented the design with the same 10-year guarantee. This was a great space to keep all of the garden tools out of these beautiful rooms.

The Result

When we started talking to the client, we knew it was going to be an exciting project. We could visualise their ambitions and was so excited about what we could achieve for them. However we're still blown away by the design and style of this project.

The team resolved all the technical challenges and the overall colour, finish, roof canopy and rooflights really does make this one of our flagship projects that we were super proud of.

Although not the original plan, this was also used as a home office during lockdown and really appreciated the separation from the home.
