The clients sought to replace their old summer house with a sleek, modern garden gym and sauna. They wanted the new structure to remain discreetly positioned near the garden boundary while also avoiding the delays and costs of obtaining planning permission. This presented some challenges regarding the height requirements for a cross trainer and local planning regulations. The existing concrete base was raised, further reducing the potential internal headroom. Following a detailed site survey and consultations with the clients, we developed a tailored solution to address these challenges.
Our landscaping contractor, TJM Contractors, removed the existing concrete base and replaced it with a new one at ground level. We then incorporated a slim bearer to maximise the internal headroom while adhering to the 2.5m planning rule. Despite this, the height was still insufficient for a cross trainer, so we added a recessed roof section to provide additional headroom where needed.
The building itself was a pre-designed 4.2m x 3.7m 'Kite' model, finished in an anthracite grey colour that blended well with the surrounding greenery. We then introduced our clients to Motive8, who supplied and installed all the necessary gym equipment. Additionally, we fitted climate control, while the client installed a sauna and outdoor shower.TJM Contractors also enhanced the space by adding an outdoor patio area.
The anthracite grey colour was perfect for keeping the building discreet. The recessed roof, while designed for practicality, also created an attractive feature that we will likely replicate for other clients with similar headroom issues. The sauna and gym equipment from Motive8 made excellent use of the space, and the outdoor patio by TJM Contractors completed the project perfectly! This new garden building turned out to be a brilliant exercise and wellness space for our clients.
