After renovating their house, our clients wanted to extend their living space into the garden to accommodate their growing family. They wanted a fully self-contained garden area for family activities, requiring extensive groundwork to install all necessary services.
After the clients visited our show centre and we conducted site surveys, we developed a solid plan. At this stage, the clients had not decided on whether to include an indoor or outdoor kitchen, so we proceeded with a standard building design.
The project involved constructing a 6.5x4.5m room, maximising the 30 square metres allowed by building regulations. We included a 2.2m canopy for alfresco dining or a future kitchen.
Given the presence of tree roots and a tree with a Tree Preservation Order (TPO), we opted for a steel and timber frame base. Due to the distance, the clients hired a local contractor to dig the service trench and install the required utilities: electrical SWA cable, fresh water, internet, TV connections, and wastewater drainage.
The building features tri-sliding doors and a large Em-glaze roof light from Whitesale. Inside, we installed V200 MDF lining in a bespoke colour chosen by the client, 'Hague Blue.' We also set up the partitions, toilet, internet, and electrical outlets for future kitchens. Once our work was complete, we handed the project over to the clients to add their personal touches.
Martin’s comments:
'Visiting the completed building was a wonderful surprise. I was amazed by the client's exceptional decoration choices. The final kitchen design is stunning, featuring a glass feature wall with integrated neon lights and an impressive outdoor Grillo kitchen.
The client aimed for an “Ivy restaurant” feel, and they nailed it with dark walls and large prints. The roof light beautifully highlights these images. The gold and anthracite kitchen, along with our detailed partition work to incorporate the cupboard, looked amazing. Seeing everything come together so well was a brilliant surprise.
This project is one I'm truly proud of, and it has already inspired many other clients. The client mentioned that the new space has significantly improved their home life beyond their expectations. It’s rewarding to see our building being used in such an amazing way. This is a project that my team and I love to share.'
